This training course is open to a huge range of people. It is designed to give you the underpinning knowledge necessary to coach in a range of different environments. It is an essential prerequisite for anyone who wants to access an assessment for:
- Sheltered water coach
- Moderate water coach
- Open water canoe coach
- Advanced water coach

Pre-requisites:
British Canoeing membership.
In addition, we strongly recommend that students paddle their preferred craft at a good standard in sheltered water. See skills assessment page 20 of the course guide - click here. Have a clear understanding of how boats move and can breakdown the manoeuvres in order to facilitate good coaching. Have delivered a number of coaching sessions so they have an appreciation of group management and communication.
Who should do this course?
- Experienced level 1 coaches who have delivered a season of group sessions and wish to continue their professional development.
- Club coaches who have been helping club members who wish to develop their coaching ability.
- Teachers, lecturers and tutors in education who are working with students in a developmental way.
- Coaches with a range of qualifications and experience who wish to continue their development and update their knowledge.

Course Syllabus:
This course will look at:
- Student profiling
- Observation and analysis strategies
- Selecting the appropriate delivery method
- The importance of practice structures
- Managing feedback in a variety of ways
- Using reflective practice to aid longterm learning

Duration:
2 days
Staff to student ratios 1 tutor to 4 students or 2 tutors to 8 students. Please note there is a minimum number of students of 4. This has been set by British Canoeing.
Registration:
At present there is no pre-registration with British Canoeing for this course.
