What our clients say...

"By far one of the best courses I have attended. From never having sat in Kayak to running the lower section of the River Eden on the second day of the course, absolutely brilliant. Fiona is an amazing instructor, I learnt so much in two days and i am now hooked on kayaking. Top notch equipment, from kayak to dry suit. Having no technical experience in kayaking, I was amazed by how much I learnt within two days."

"Excellent progression and skill development. Fiona was excellent instructor and group leader who helped me develop in confidence and competence in a short period. Although I have had some recent instruction the gradual progressive nature of the course and excellent instruction allowed me to progress areas I was aware of, consolidate but also introduced new skills, strokes and perspective to develop confidence and ability. Fiona was very good at allowing me to develop and focus on my skills within the needs of the broader group. Really appreciated that personal dimension. The time Sean took to contact me directly, after an initial email, to talk through my needs and objectives. Really appreciated the engagement on training needs and kit. And the honesty when talking stuff through."

Introduction to White Water Kayaking

Cumbria has some of the best white water rivers in the UK.

Whether you want your first taste of white water or you want to revisit the basics of paddling on moving water, this course will meet your needs.

You could enjoy the beauty of the river Eden as you paddle through its sandstone gorges on its bouncy wave train rapids or perhaps the gentle meanders of the middle Derwent as you paddle towards Bassenthwaite.

The only down side to white water kayaking is that sometimes when we are having the most fun is when you are most likely to fall in. This can be a little wet and cold. In order to make sure you have the best time possible we will issue you with one of our high quality drysuits.  Swimming around in a river when you stay dry is pretty fun.

All courses start with an introduction to your equipment using a range of high quality kayaks. After a fitting session we will take you on some easy water and start to coach you in the skills required for white water paddling. From there we will move you on at your own pace setting challenges that will suit you.

Equipment

For this course we can provide the following:

  • White water boat
  • Drysuit
  • Paddle
  • Buoyancy aid
  • White water helmet
  • Small drybag to carry your lunch in

If you already have the above equipment, please bring it along.

We would like you to bring:

  • Clothing to wear under a drysuit, including a couple of thermal layers and some warm socks.
  • Sturdy footwear such as trainers or substantial wet boots but not walking boots. Note that thick socks and drysuit feet take up more room so make sure the footwear allows for this.
  • Lunch and hot drink.

If you don't have any of the above equipment please contact us as we can probably provide it, if given appropriate notice.
